Making Your Home Energy Efficient Adds Up To Big Savings

Government statistics report that conserving energy costs in the home can save a household several hundred, even several thousand, dollars per year on their utility bills. Replacing your older appliances and elements of your homes structure, such as older windows and doors, with more energy-efficient alternatives, such as products that meet ENERGY STAR guidelines, is an important step to maximizing the amount of money you can save.

ENERGY STAR is a government program that identifies products including appliances, home electronics, and home improvement products that meet energy efficiency guidelines that exceed the minimum federal standards, as determined by the U.S. Department of Energy. You can identify a product that meets the organizations guidelines by looking for the signature blue ENERGY STAR logo.

The ENERGY STAR program began as a voluntary labeling tool to "identify and promote energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions." It started with the labeling of computers and monitors and more than a decade later, has expanded to identify all types of products used in homes and offices that conserve energy. The result: Consumers and businesses have saved billions of dollars since the program began $12 billion in 2005 alone.

Energy-efficient appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, clothing washers, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and window air conditioning units can cut consumer utility bills in half when compared with standard models. And home improvement products with an ENERGY STAR rating such as vinyl replacement windows, doors, skylights and siding help to better maintain your homes temperature control, cutting heating and cooling costs anywhere from $20 to $400 per year.

If youve been searching for a product in any one of the more than 40 categories rated by ENERGY STAR, you may have come across the organizations blue logo. That seal of approval indicates that the item can perform as well as, or better than, comparable products, but save you more money than if you purchased a less energy-efficient option.

A refrigerator meeting ENERGY STARs energy conservation guidelines today: Uses 40% less energy than models sold in 2001, saves its owner 15% in energy costs when compared with other models (freezers save 10%) and compact models, with volumes less than 7.75 square feet, save 20%. A washing machine that meets ENERGY STAR guidelines: Saves its owner up to $110 per year, requires 50% less energy than standard washing machines, uses up to 50% less water and has more efficient spinning cycles to reduce drying time.

Energy-efficient appliances provide an obvious cost savings for a households energy expenses. And other products that meet ENERGY STAR standards, such as vinyl replacement windows, doors, skylights and siding, make a significant contribution to keeping those costs down as well. Replacing your existing windows and siding with newer, better designed vinyl replacement windows and insulated siding can quadruple the insulation value of your home and save an average of 30% on your utility bills.

In addition to saving money, vinyl replacement windows with this rating create a more comfortable living environment by eliminating drafts, blocking heat, Offering protection from sun damage and reducing interior condensation on windows. In the winter, energy-efficient vinyl replacement windows keep the interior glass warmer for better temperature control. And the warmer the window, the less interior condensation that, over time, can damage your window sill and paint job, and encourage mold growth.

In the summer, these windows also block 45 to 70% of the suns heat and provide "sunscreen" to your home by blocking ultraviolet light that can reduce fading up to 75% without compromising visible light.

Whether you are looking to add to the beauty of your home and lower your energy bills by installing vinyl replacement windows, or you want to make a smart decision when choosing your next dishwasher or window air conditioning unit, products that meet ENERGY STAR guidelines offer an economical alternative that leaves more money in your pocket.

Speed Learning With SQR3

SQ3R is a reading/study system preferred by many educators.

It can add 10 to 15% more time to a study session. However, it can produce a 70% improvement in retention according to some researchers.

The SQ3R acronym stands for:

S = Survey
Q = Question
R = Read
R = Recite
R = Review

SURVEY:

Take five minutes to get an overview of the material paying special attention to organization and content.

Look out for diagrams, maps, pictures, charts. Take note of headings, boldface type, italicized words.

QUESTION:

Create interest in the material by asking the leading questions - What, Who, Where, When, How.

Keeping the mind focused on these questions as we read maintains interest in the material.

Ask yourself, "What is likely to be the most challenging part of this material for me to understand or remember?"

READ:

Look for answers to your questions from the previous stage. This means active reading. Summarize the main points in your own words, perhaps putting notes in the margin.

Read the whole paragraph first, then go back and underline key words or phrases.

Caution on underlining: Don't overdo it or nothing will stand out.

RECITE:

Without looking at your material recite the main points. Answer the questions you raised in step 2 (Question) in your own words.

If you can't explain it in your own words, you don't understand it - even if you think you do!

Verify your answer by checking the text.

REVIEW:

After applying the previous four stages to your material section by section, review the whole lesson at the end.

Note the parts that did not come to mind so easily and check the material again.

Re-read your margin notes and underlined words and phrases. Verbalize the sequence of main points.

Do this frequently within a two day period.

That's SQ3R in a nutshell. Sounds like hard work? Yes. But apply yourself and see your retention ability skyrocket!

Dental Care For Your DogSink Your Teeth Into It

Dental care for your dog can get lost in the shuffle of daily life. Even if you really love your dog and give your dog great dog care, its easy to slip up on dental care for your dog.

When was the last time you checked your dogs teeth?

I knowthe inside of the mouth isnt the cutest part of your dog. But it can tell you a lot about your dogs health.

Contrary to what non-dog people may think, not all dogs have bad breath. Bad doggy breath, in fact, can be a sign of disease.

To look for signs of disease, check the color of your dogs teeth. White is really good. Brown is really bad. Youre aiming for at least somewhere in between.

Check for broken teeth, pus or bleeding gums, and look for any unusual growths. If you see anything that looks unhealthy, please take your dog to the vet.

If youre in a metropolitan area, you may be able to find a vet who specializes in dental care. Check the American Veterinary Dental Colleges site to see a list of their graduates.

You can find dog dental care products at nearly any pet store. The easiest way to keep your dogs teeth healthy is with dental chews. The more your dog chews, on something meant for chewing (not on something like your furniture), the better dog dental health your dog will have.

Theres been some debate about the safety of the well-known chews, Greenies. Ive never given my dog Greenies, but some dog parents say theyre great. Be aware, though, that according to a CNN investigation, since 2003, 40 dogs have had to have pieces of Greenies surgically removed, and 13 of those dogs died. Of course, thats a small number given that over 750 million Greenies have been sold since 1998.

Better than chews are rinses or pastes that you put on your dogs teeth and gums. Even better than that is brushing your dogs teeth. You can find tooth brushes especially for dog dental care at any pet supply store.

If you take just a little time to get the right supplies and just a bit of time to use them, youll be doing your dog AND you a big favor. Your dog will be healthier (and have fewer expensive problems) when you get dental care for your dog.

What Is DSL?

DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. It is a service that makes the use of existing copper telephone wires for delivering data services at extremely fast speed rates. It does not hamper the existing telephone line. You can surf the Internet and talk on the phone, simultaneously.

DSL offers speeds that are around 5 to 25 times higher than a typical 56Kb dial-up connection. It is an always-on type of connection. This implies that websites would load quickly, downloads would be faster, buffering of videos would be fast and smooth and the domain of Online games would be illimitable.

Based on the types of service, DSL can be can be categorized in three divisions which are ASDL, IDSL and SDSL.

ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. It offers download speed of 1.5 Mbps and upload speed of 384 K. In order to acquire a ADSL connection, your location has to be within 3 miles of your local telephone office. Also, a DSL router is needed for this type of connection.

IDSL is a ISDN Digital Subscriber Line service which requires an ISDN router. It provides a connection speed of 144 K. in this type of connection distance is not a component to be considered.

SDSL means Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line. The speeds available under this type of DSL connection depends on the distance between your location and your local telephone office. The speed of downloads and uploads can go up to 1.1 Mbps.

Advantages of DSL

No installation of new wires is required. DSL uses the present telephone line to connect to the Internet. It provides extremely fast connection. Depending on the offer, you would not even have to pay for the DSL modem installation charges, since it is provided free by some of the companies on selection of the appropriate plan. The download rate is much higher in DSL connections. Many business organizations have gained the benefits of DSL. A DSL connection is very secure.

Disadvantages of DSL

The quality of your DSL connection depends on the distance between the DSL providers office and your location. Nearer you are, the better quality connection would you get. So, consumers located far from the local DSL office may face some trouble. DSL provide high speeds for downloading stuff but upload speeds are not that good.

DSL vs Cable Modems

The services provided through a cable modem can sometimes slow down or get hanged. It depends on the number of users accessing that particular service. But, in a DSL connection there is no such problem. The speed of DSL is consistent and high. This does not allow any kind of conjunction on the network. It provides more security than the cable modem connections. The popularity of DSL has risen to new heights which has resulted in disconnections and up gradations of the cable modem connections.

Learn on How Quickly and Easily Cleaning Window Blinds Can Be

Cleaning window blinds is one of those jobs that we tend to look so forward to doing that we have to hold ourselves back. Well, perhaps in a perfect world, but in the real world this is one job that is about as exciting as watching paint dry. As a result of this enthusiasm we generally do not get around to doing to job until it is a monumental task rather than doing it regularly when it wouldnt be such an issue. Whatever your reasons for putting off this onerous task, eventually it must be done, lest the dust overtake your windows.

Below you will find a short guide to cleaning most common blinds quickly and easily.

Venetian Blinds

If you are willing to go to the effort of completely removing them from your window (the recommended method for cleaning this particular mindat least once or twice per year) it is advised that you place them into a tub full of warm soapy water in order to clean them. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly and remove all the soap residue or your blinds may turn yellow over time. You will want to air dry your blinds Other methods include wiping them (while still hanging) with a mixture of vinegar and water, a citrus based cleaner (not a furniture polish), a micro fiber wash clothe, or using a vacuum cleaner with an attachment designs specifically for cleaning blinds.

Aluminum Mini Blinds

In order to get most of the dust off these blinds it is recommended that you shake them well or use a chemically treated dust cloth in order to remove the dust from in between the slats. Most vacuum cleaners have an attachment that works well for this particular type of blind. If they are really dirty, you can actually take these out of your window and spray them with a garden hose outside or simply soak them in a warm soapy tub. Be sure not to vigorously scrub these particular blinds while they are wet as they may scratch.

Wooden Blinds

Since water is a big no-no with this particular type of blind, it is recommended that you use a feather duster, Swiffer duster or similar product, micro fiber wash clothes, or your vacuum cleaner in order to clean these blinds. You can also use furniture polish if these havent been painted.

Pleated Fabric Window Shades

The best thing for these is a brief shake or a quick pass with the vacuum cleaner. You do not want to submerge them in water as this makes them more likely to degrade in color or texture (crispness of the creases) over time.

As you can see, no matter how terribly we build these chores to be in our minds, they rarely live up to our negative expectations. If you do the things mentioned above on a fairly regular basis you lessen the risk of the serious dirt that can build up over time.

Making Use of an Old Computer

Five years ago I completed my my masters degree and to celebrate this achievement, I purchased a refurbished Dell computer. It's amazing what my computer has helped me do:

I wrote my book, Becoming Debt Free One Paycheck at a Time, and what seems to be endless edits

I created the One Paycheck at a Time website, and the ongoing redesigns

I surf the Internet constantly looking for new ideas to share for my monthly newsletters

I must have written thousands and thousands of emails to customers, vendors, friends, and family members.

Over the years, my computer has had its share of hardware and software issues. And, without a good computer repair person, I'd be completely lost. When my computer acts up and is really temperamental, I've seriously considered throwing it out of the window! Can you relate?

I've decided that my old computer is now too slow to keep up with the expectations and demands I place on it. Instead of adding to the over-burdened landfills, I've decided to donate much of the hardware. I'm keeping the accessories since I haven't worn out my monitor, speakers or mouse yet but I will donate these when their time comes as well. TechSoup.org connects nonprofits with donated and discounted technology products. To donate a computer or its parts, plug in your zip code in their location finder. Local recycle companies which service local schools and nonprofits in your area will be listed so that you can contact them directly.

Here are the advantages of donating your computer:

Recycling is always good for the environment

Knowing that a student will have access to a computer makes you feel good

And, get a receipt documenting your donation -- you get to write this off of your taxes!

How to Create a Procedures Manual For Your Cleaning Company

While most companies have specific policies and a printed procedure manual written up for employees to follow, your cleaning business may have started on a part-time basis with you doing everything. Most likely, nothing was put in writing. With many different tasks pulling you in a thousand directions, putting your procedures down into writing has most likely not made it to the top of your "to do" list. But what happens when you want to go on a vacation? Or if you become sick or injured? Having a written policy and procedures manual for your cleaning business means your business can keep running if you do become sick or injured or if you decide to take some much needed time off.

So how do you go about writing down the procedures you do to keep your business running? Start off by realizing this is an important task to take on. Following are a few tips to help you create a procedures manual for your cleaning business:

1. Don't try to sit down and write out your manual in one sitting. You will get discouraged and most likely set the document aside and never get back to it. You do not have to tackle this project all at once. Instead, set aside a block of time every day or once a week to work on your manual.

2. Set up your manual as a Microsoft Word document and password protect it. Microsoft Word is an easy program to work with and allows you to easily make changes. By password protecting the document it will not be accessible to anyone else. Just make sure you share the password with a spouse or trusted assistant in case something happens to you.

3. Start by putting basic information into your manual. This is the information that you needed to get your cleaning business up and running and is probably scattered about your office in numerous documents. Some of the information you'll want to document include: your business address, e-mail, phone number, fax number, your attorney's name and address, accountant's name and address, bank account information, Employee Identification Number (EIN), sales tax number and credit card information.

4. When you are working on specific tasks for your business, whether that be sending out billings, making sales calls, etc., write down your procedures. If there are particular tasks that have to be done regularly, or other tasks you feel are important to the business, make sure you document the procedures, step-by-step. You can even dictate the specific procedures into a tape recorder and have those transcribed.

5. If you have other people helping you, such as an assistant, bookkeeper, or salesperson, have them document what they do. For instance, if your bookkeeper is responsible for paying sales tax she should write down all relevant information including when to send in the taxes, where it goes, who she or he calls if there are questions. Keep your manual consistent by creating a simple template that you use for all of your procedures. Following is an example for the format of a section:

1. Date Updated: _________________

2. Updated by: ___________________

3. Procedures Required to ____________________________________

4. List step-by-step procedures

A filled out page might look something like this:

Date Updated: 9/15/06

Updated by: John Jones

Procedures Required to CheckVoicemail.

- Call 555-5555

- Press the # key to stop the message

- Enter code: 9156

- Listen to messages

- Press 3 to delete message, press 7 to save message

Listed below are additional items that you will probably want to include in your cleaning business' procedures manual. This is just a general list. One of your first steps in putting together your own manual will be to decide what information you need to include.

- Important contact information.

- Customer contact information and contract information.

- Account numbers and passwords.

- Vendor lists.

- Legal information

- Type of business entity, important account numbers.

- Computer procedures, software and product ID's, back-up systems.

- Website designer, website host and registrar for domain names.

- Bookkeeping procedures.

- Procedures for paying taxes.

- Payroll procedures.

- Employee evaluation procedures.

- Where to find equipment warranties and service information. Information on your safety program including where to find MSDS sheets.

The easiest way to begin putting together your manual is to make a list of all the things that you and others do for your cleaning company that need to be documented. If you can delegate some of these items to others then do so! That will make your job all that much easier. Put together a template that works for your cleaning business and then start filling in the blanks. Before you know it, your manual will be completed. Print it off and put it into a three-ring binder so you can use it as a reference. Then if for some reason you cannot work or if you decide to finally take that vacation there will be procedures in place so your cleaning business can run efficiently in your absence.

You're Not Alone

A genius friend of mine is starting a new venture. Hes an accomplished technologist, sales executive, consultant, and entrepreneur.

During a recent telephone conversation he said something striking. Before I tell you what he said, heres some background. Over the years, hes experienced his share of ups and downs in selling and business building, but hes unquestionably a success. He consistently earns in the moderate six-figures and it appears that he has recently become the beneficiary of a transaction exceeding $1 million. Now, after a short stint working for another consultant, hes itching to call his own shots. Heres what he said to me:

Andr, Im going to move ahead on my new business idea. Things are a little different than they were a few years ago. When I was working on that last business I was sitting in my basement, making calls and sending emails. I had no network. I felt alone in the process.

But now, he says, he feels he can make a go of it.

Heres whats striking. This is an individual who has no shortage of contacts. He once invited me over to his house for an impromptu get-together and I felt like I was waiting to get into New Yorks Studio 54 in its heyday. He had them packed in.

I would never think he would feel alone at anytime. Hes got a great personality, hes scary smart, and he has a sizable family and network of friends and business associates. Hes also waist deep in church and community activities and has legions of people who admire him. Yet when he described the experience of his last venture, he emphasized loneliness.

Entrepreneurs have often felt lonely believing that no one else shares their vision or their passion for building a business. But, we are not alone (pun intended) in that feeling. With todays growing workforce of soloists, telecommuters, work-at-home parents, independent salespeople, and virtual teams, loneliness is a feeling that millions are fighting.

During the ups and downs of completing a project, or finding new customers, the feeling of loneliness can set in and limit our vision and our productivity. It can be discouraging and be a wallop to that old self-esteem. And, with the gadgets we tote around, we unknowingly make it worse.

Technology thats supposed to connect us -- email, voicemail, and PDAs often fuels our loneliness, enabling us to do a better job of isolating ourselves. For some reason we dont treat every email or voicemail like a real person is behind it. Why acknowledge it?

Were also intentionally distracted. Were plugged into our new iPods, or tapping our PDA screen playing a game. How about using technology to interact with real people once in a while?

Teenagers are ahead in figuring this out, instant-messaging all day, but even they are lonely. Instant-messaging must often be combined with conference calls involving multiple friends for full effect. You see, you really need to hear someones voice.

Speaking of voice, theres the mobile phone. Its one of those technologies that help us cope with our loneliness. However, the obsessive use of mobile phones in our culture is perhaps the biggest clue that we are all eager to talk to somebody willing to hear our story. Walk down any street and youll see tons of people ignoring the people around them, talking to someone else on the telephone. As soon as we get into our cars we call somebody, so we wont be alone.

So what does this all mean to those in business and professional careers? I have three thoughts:

1. Make money. Loneliness is one of the biggest business opportunities I have seen in decades. If we can make our work and our businesses friendlier, more responsive, and more raucous like family gatherings, our businesses will soar. No matter how big our businesses, we have to make our customers, our friends and make them feel that way. Reach out. How about sending some freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies to your friends? Better yet, how about delivering them?

2. Be nice to strangers. I know this is not the advice that your parents gave you, but there are millions of people looking for new contacts, conversations, and ideas. So what are you waiting for? Stop isolating yourself, turn off your mobile phone and strike up a conversation with the person next to you on line at the bagel store. Remember the old fashioned hello?

3. Unite and connect. How often have you called two people and introduced them to each other. If we are to cure this international epidemic of loneliness we must act now and decisively. Bring people together. Make life one big social gathering. And when someone gives you a new book, or tells you about a new restaurant, tell the author, restaurateur etc., how much you liked it. Write notes. Make calls. Be aggressively friendly. When people walk by and pretend they dont see you, shout Good Morning, loud enough to rattle their wisdom teeth.

Theres no need anymore to pretend that youre not lonely that youre too busy dealing with important people and projects. I know the truth. Im encouraging you to use your loneliness to your advantage. Most of the world is longing for what we used to call friends, to hear about their challenges, triumphs, and endeavors. Yes, this is you -- and youre not alone.

Florida State Football Tickets - See The Seminoles Now Before The Program Declines

If youve had a chance to use Florida State football tickets in the past 20 years or so, youve been privileged to watch one of the most dominant programs in the history of college football. The Seminoles have dominated the ACC as well, and they have produced countless NFL stars over the years.

However, the Seminoles are showing some early signs of decline, and given that their legendary coach, Bobby Bowden, is nearing the end of his historic career, Seminoles fans may be watching a ship thats slowly taking on water. Well examine why FSU fans should brace themselves for a bit of a dark period below.

Succeeding a Legend

Have you ever tried to succeed a legend? Its not easy, thats for sure. Whoever replaces Bowden will have to deal with constant comparisons, and will only have to fill the shoes of the most successful, when measuring by number of wins, college football coach of all time. Itll be a thankless job where the new coach will almost be set up to fail, even though it wont really be anyones fault. Florida State football tickets were an afterthought before Bowden arrived on campus in 1976, as the team had won only four games over the previous three seasons.

One need only look at Florida States neighbors to gain an understanding of the task that awaits Bowdens successor. Ron Zook failed at Florida after Steve Spurrier moved to the NFL, and Jim Donnan and Ray Goff did not meet expectations at Georgia after Vince Dooley hung up the headset in Athens. If you want to look further west, ask Frank Solich how things went at Nebraska after he succeeded Tom Osborne. Solich had a good record, but not good enough, and he was dismissed after only a few seasons.

Recent Record

Bowdens list of accomplishments at FSU is stunning. Hes won two national championships and finished in the AP Top 5 an unbelievable 14 consecutive years. Florida State also won 10 or more games for 14 consecutive seasons, but from 2001 through 2005, the Seminoles lost 20 games. Previously, it had taken 15 seasons to lose that many games.

Florida State has won 10 games only once in the past five years, which is a far cry from doing just that 14 consecutive times, and generally speaking, teams no longer fear Florida State the way they once did. Bowden is beginning to lose some recruiting battles that he had always won, and some would say its because he can no longer guarantee that hell be around for four or five more seasons, as he is, after all, about to turn 77.

In-State Competition

Although Bowden has always had to contend with in-state powers Miami and Florida, it seems that these two programs are starting to creep up on Florida State a bit. Miami is struggling so far in 2006, but theyve won several national championships in recent years and are always a serious threat to win it all. Florida has a hot new coach in Urban Meyer, and hes building a program that could challenge for the national title in 2006 despite a brutal schedule.

Miami and Florida have also started to snare recruits from talent-rich Florida that would have never considered any other school than FSU a decade ago, and thats perhaps the most troubling sign for the future of the program and for the next coach.

Basically, there will never be another Bobby Bowden, and the next coach at Florida State will get an unwanted lesson in that reality. Florida State football tickets will continue to sell well for the foreseeable future, but they may become just a bit easier to find before too long.

Increasing Manufacturing Profits Through Precision Pricing

Manufacturers face an array of complex challenges including intense competition, increasing costs, and accelerated product life cycles. Technology investments in enterprise systems such as ERP, SCM, PLM, and CRM over the last ten years have helped to rein in operating costs and increase corporate agility. As adoption of these capabilities has become widespread, they no longer provide competitive advantage. However, the resulting quantity and quality of data they produce have set the stage for business intelligence applications that leverage this data to analyze and optimize business performance.

One of the functional areas best-suited for a quantitative approach is pricing. Data-driven customer segmentation and optimization models can recommend prices that are much more profitable than those currently in market. This pricing science can be easily applied through analytical and execution applications, enabling smarter decisions and better execution across all business functions related to pricing. Given the current state of pricing practices and its considerable impact of financial performance, the potential benefits of pricing initiatives are enormous.

Moreover, manufacturers broad product lines, numerous customers, and negotiated sales model combine to create a business environment that is very conducive to a science-guided approach to pricing. Early adopters pursuit of an intelligent pricing advantage has led to the development of commercial solutions. Having worked with manufacturers for years, Zilliants industry-specific pricing applications provide the fit and flexibility that they need.

Until now, only a limited number of success stories have been made public due to the sensitive and strategic nature of pricing practices. This lack of publicity belies the growing use of advanced pricing techniques and applications in business-to-business markets including manufacturing. As the leading practitioners have achieved significant, measurable benefits, however, more and more manufacturers are investing in pricing-related initiatives. As a result, the industry is experiencing a steep adoption curve similar to what was previously seen in travel, hospitality and retail.

Most manufacturing companies are very familiar with the power of process automation to improve business performance. However, many are just beginning to exploit the potential of applied business intelligence applications that harness data from operational systems to improve decision-making across the enterprise. A few of these companies have embraced sophisticated analysis and optimization systems so deeply that some management strategists have dubbed them analytics competitors.

Regardless of how widespread a companys use of analytics is, using more quantitative approaches to pricing can deliver significant financial gains. Many companies current pricing processes are manual and largely ad hoc, resulting in poorly-priced deals that leave significant margin on the table. In most cases, price, discount, and other margin-driving terms are arbitrarily based on precedent and circumstance rather than empirical analysis and strategic intent. Even companies that apply pricing principles manually, e.g. basic price segmentation, would benefit greatly from more precise price differentiation that can only come from advanced quantitative models and optimization techniques.

Following the example set in other industries such as airlines and hotels, some manufacturers began pursuing pricing initiatives years ago. Their focus has been in two areas: controlling discounting and applying optimization techniques to exploit price elasticity. These early adopters realized that the sooner they started, the greater the financial benefit. In almost every case, these projects have exceeded their projected return on investment, in some cases delivering tens of millions of dollars of incremental profit. Learning of these compelling successes, many more companies in a wide range of manufacturing sectors (industrial, high tech, chemical) are confidently pursuing similar pricing initiatives.

So what are some of the key lessons learned? And why did it take so long for manufacturers to begin to adopt quantitative pricing methods? Answering these questions requires an understanding of manufacturings three most pressing pricing challenges and the opportunities attendant in overcoming them. The answers also point to key capabilities are required to capitalize on these opportunities.

1. Ad Hoc Pricing Facilitates Price Differentiation: Diversified manufacturers typically have extensive product portfolios and very sizable customer bases. After taking into account all price-related variables (e.g. costs, contracts, discounts, volume agreements, customizations, shipping, etc.), the total number of unique prices in market at any one time can easily exceed 100,000. With so many products, exceptions, and changes over time, it is no wonder that manufacturers price points and margins vary widely across their business. In fact, some manufacturers struggle with merely calculating prices that are correct, i.e. are in accordance with their numerous price lists, policies, and contracts, let alone differentiating prices to maximize margins and overall profits.

Fortunately, this complexity can be not only managed, but also exploited. Information systems designed to allow companies to calculate correct prices are widely available, often as functional modules within the order management products marketed by ERP and CRM vendors. Better still are integrated price segmentation, optimization and enforcement applications from best-of-breed pricing application vendors like Zilliant. Their advantage is that they allow manufacturers to operationalize differentiated, profit-maximizing prices by employing science-based segmentation and optimization capabilities.

The scientific foundation of price differentiation is segmenting customers by the price sensitivity and using each price segments unique sensitivity to set prices on future deals. Figure 2 shows examples of how companies have dramatically increased the number of actionable segmentation variables they use to set differentiated prices.

Only by identifying and acting on the variables that most affect customers buying behavior can companies fully capture the value of these purchases as incremental margin on every deal.

2. Better Data Quantity and Quality Available for Quantitative Applications: Managing all of these pricing inputs and calculations typically involves a number of disparate transactional and price administration systems. Additionally, most manufacturers now have some type of customer relationship management (CRM) software in place for managing customer, sales opportunity, and competitive data, adding to the multitude of isolated systems.

Fortunately, while data collection and integration can be difficult, this challenge is now more tractable than ever. Many companies have already rationalized numerous legacy systems into a few data-rich enterprise applications, and have begun to aggregate transactional and CRM data into central repositories. Even when data remains scattered across multiple systems, improved APIs and integration tools have simplified its retrieval. In all, companies now are much better able to aggregate and analyze the data needed to define price segments and their relative profitability.

Even after aggregating all available data, quantity and quality can still be a challenge. Many products are slow moving, producing sparse transactional history. And most companies do not track quotes that do not become orders, valuable data for determining price sensitivity. Overcoming these limitations is crucial to maximizing the profit potential from segmentation and optimization, and is a major advantage offered by Zilliant.

3. Informed Negotiations Increase Profits: Last but not least, the negotiating behaviors of sales personnel and channel partners play a major role in determining the profitability of deal outcomes. Uninformed decisions related to discounts and other costly terms is a major source of revenue leakage in most companies.

The good news is that the most powerful negotiating tool available is information. Giving sales people reasonable price recommendations based on quantitative information about what similar customers paid under similar circumstances immediately improves results. In addition to better market information and price recommendations, incentives also have a powerful effect on sales representatives discipline and confidence. And when management deems that an order deserves an exception to standard discounting policy, the ability to evaluate different scenarios based on their relative profitability ensures must win deals helps limit the overall financial impact.

With a rich pool of data at-hand and proven applications to exploit this data, there is no better time for manufacturers to invest in pricing initiatives. And there is no better partner than Zilliant. Working with manufacturing companies like yours, we have made a significant investment in the products and people that make up our total solution. Types Scholarship For College Students Given By Schools

With the increasing cost of college education, you surely would want to know the different possibilities wherein you can study and earn a degree without paying so much or without paying at all. Sounds familiar?

What about scholarship for college students?

Now thats more familiar.

But getting familiar with the phrase would not give you any result and would not even let you finish college for free. You still have to know the types of scholarship for college student so that you can choose which one is right for you.

You see, not all scholarships are created equal. Some have certain criteria and others have certain requirements. Each has its own sets of rules for qualification set by the sponsor. But for the basic knowledge about the different college scholarships offered, here are the things you should know:

Academic scholarship for college students

This is probably the most famous type of college scholarship. Here, students are awarded with free education provided that they pass an entrance examination for scholarship or finished high school with honors or, passed whatever requirements the sponsor have set. Most colleges and universities offer this type of scholarship. Academic scholars would have to maintain certain grade to keep their education free.

For private organizations that offer academic scholarship, rules on maintaining certain grade are less strict than colleges and universities. This though does not mean that private organizations are more lenient to their scholars. This only means that colleges and universities can watch the status of their academic scholars closely since they have the access to the school records.

Athletic scholarship for college students

Finishing college through athletic scholarship is another way to study for less or even for free. It is a given fact that many students dream of becoming an athlete on their school mainly because athletes are awarded with free education. The thing is: since it may be easier to play sports than to become excellent in academics, competition among students is fierce.

Meanwhile, there are private institutions that award athletic scholarships to students. And their system works the same as colleges and university grants.

Departmental scholarship for college students

Many college and university departments offer scholarships for two reasons: to attract more students to study in their department, and to maintain students who wish to move to another department.

These 3 are not the only scholarship grants that could bet. But basically, these 3 are given most of the time.

5 Secrets to Studying Abroad in France

If studying abroad is wonderful then studying abroad in France is wondrous.

Here are some treasures on how to best explore one of the most beautiful countries on earth in between all of those pesky tests and papers...

1. Dont bring anything that might have to be dry cleaned! You will find doing your laundry in a Laundromat quite expensive compared to the States, the prices for dry cleaning are astronomical, as its still not a very common practice. Should you discover a red wine stain on your favorite dry clean only shirt that made its way into your suitcase against better advise, look for a Pressing or Blachisserie and ask for a nettoyage sec (TIP: Before forking over for a dry cleaning bill, the best way to get a red wine stain out of clothes is by pouring its friend white wine all over it, honest!)

2. Because the water in France is a lot softer than in the States, your hair and skin may not feel as clean even after washing. For this reason, its best not to bring your own products from home, but to buy products here that are specially adapted and produced according to the minerals in the water. You can go to any of the beauty supply stores and talk to a sales lady about it and they can direct you to a product thats right for you.

3. For a truly interesting movie going experience in Paris, be sure to visit La Pagode. The manager of the store Bon March imported a real pagoda from Japan for his wife to use as a ballroom! Unfortunately they soon divorced, and it was turned into a movie theater that makes for a brilliant experiencebe sure to ask for the salle japonaise. (57 rue de Babylone 75007)

4. When headed to the cinema, the matinees are always cheapest. But pay attention to the rules of each movie house, because in some this may be any film played before noon, but in others it may just be the first film of the day. Many theaters also have reduced ticket prices on Mondays and Wednesdays. (TIP: Be sure the film is in VO, version originale, played in English with subtitles and not dubbed over in French, VF!)

5. If you are studying abroad in Nice, be sure to visit one of the few internet cafs in the city, located at 8 Rue Vincent, just at the corner of Rue Pontin in the Old Town. They have wi-fi and cable TV, great food and snack, and Happy Hour for drinks starting at 5 pm. Plus its run by a lovely Englishman who has been living in Nice for over 15 years, and is a great resource on where to go and what to do in the city.

Could I Be Pregnant?

Although your body has not changed in appearance, you will be having many other clues that you are pregnant. Even at just one month in the pregnancy, major changes are going on and your body will letting you know about them. Paying close attention to the early signs, you will be able to know if you are pregnant. Simple technology can tell you this information.

Of course, the first noticeable sign of pregnancy is the missed period. I found this information pregnancy site useful http://www.detailedpregnancy.com. Missing your period has always been the easiest way of knowing that you are expecting. Before running out to buy all the cute baby things, you should first look closely at your cycle. If you are lucky, you are very regular and know exactly when each period is supposed to start. Because of that regularity, these women can be fairly sure they are a month pregnant when they miss that period.

Unfortunately, that is not the case for most women. Thousands of women are not regular and are worried every month that they may be pregnant because they never know when their period is supposed to start. Even in a regular woman, she may experience spotting as the egg implants making her think she has just had a lighter period than normal. This could cause the misconception that she is not pregnant when in reality she is a month along.

Obviously, the missed period is not the most reliable way to tell if you should be shopping for maternity clothes and registering for baby shower gifts. Fortunately, there are many other clues that will let you know if you are in that one month of pregnancy. Some clues you may have to look for while others will be blatant. Morning sickness could be an obvious sign of pregnancy even though it doesnt always happen in the morning.

More subtle clues could be a sudden change in tastes pertaining to beverages with caffeine or alcohol. Sometimes a women who is one month pregnant or earlier develops a slight queasiness after sipping a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Again, this will vary in many women, so if you think there is a possibility that you are pregnant stay away from alcohol to prevent possible birth defects.

A more universal sign of early pregnancy is faintness and chronic fatigue. In this early stage of the first trimester, your body is working hard to build a new life making you crave sleep. This common hint that you are in your one month of pregnancy tends to also come back in the last three months as the baby experiences a burst of growth.

Moodiness could be another sign. However if that is the only sign, you probably wouldnt run to buy a pregnancy test. Paired together with tender breasts, this moodiness may well be telling you that you are one month pregnant. Of course you may experience one, none, or all of these symptoms. The best way to tell when you suspect that you may be one month pregnant is to take a pregnancy test.

I Love French Wine and Food - A Red Cotes du Rhone

If you are looking for fine French wine and food, consider the Rhone Valley region of southeastern France. You may find a bargain, and I hope that you'll have fun on this fact-filled wine education tour in which we review a local red Cotes du Rhone.

Among France's eleven wine-growing regions the Rhone Valley ranks number two in vineyard acreage. The region extends 125 miles (200 kilometers) along the Rhone River. This region is actually composed of two parts, the north and the south whose wines tend to be quite different. The northern Rhone Valley is quite narrow. The predominant red grape is Syrah, and the most important white grape is Viognier. The southern Rhone Valley produces about 95% of the Rhone Valley wines. This region strongly believes in blending grapes in their wines. For example the famous Chteauneuf-Du-Pape AOC wine may be made from up to thirteen different grape varieties. The better wines are clearly defined as coming from the northern or the southern part of the Rhone valley. We will be reviewing some of these wines in later articles.

Historians believe that Avignon was originally settled by the Celts. It was a flourishing city in the time of the Ancient Romans. But it is best known as the home of seven popes between 1309 and 1377. Who would have thought that when Pope Clement V chose this southern French city for the site of his Papacy, it was ruled by the King of Sicily, albeit through the house of Anjou, in the opposite corner of France? Avignon and the surrounding area remained more or less papal property until the French Revolution. The major tourist site is the Palais des Papes (Papal Palace), which unfortunately is missing many of its original furnishings. But there is a lot more to see including several churches and museums, the beautiful hilltop garden Rocher des Doms (Rock of the Domes), the opera house, the Clocktower Square, and of course the Pont-St.-Benezet (St.-Benezet Bridge) made famous by a children's song Sur le pont d'Avignon (On the Avignon bridge). Parts of this bridge are said to date back to the Twelfth Century. And you're only a little more than ten miles (less than twenty kilometers) from the village of Chteauneuf-Du-Pape.

Before reviewing the Cotes du Rhone wine and imported cheeses that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region. Start with Fois Gras de Canard (Duck Liver Pate). For your second course savor Caillette (Pork-Liver Meat Loaf). And as dessert indulge yourself with Sorbet (Sherbert) and fresh fruit.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed Reserve Perrin Cotes du Rhone P2004 13% about $12

Let's start by quoting the marketing materials. Roaming Rhone. This wine will transport you to the South of France. Five generations of Perrin winemaking culminate here as you breathe in aromas of candied cherries, plum, spice, and earthy tones. There's volumes of juicy cherry flavors surrounded by good ripe tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Gourmets can savor it with chicken or lamb tajine.

Most of the wines that we have reviewed are made from a single grape variety. This wine, like most of the wines in the southern Rhone Valley, is a blend, in this case 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and 10% Cinsault.

My first meal consisted of rib steak and fried potatoes. The steak was marinated in a homemade ketchup and horseradish mustard sauce. By accident too much mustard fell into the sauce, but I didn't want to throw it out and start over again. No problem, this wine rose to the challenge easily and wasn't in the least overwhelmed by all that horseradish. I still tasted dark fruits and spices.

My next meal involved slow cooked ribs and potatoes. I found the wine full and very round. While it wasn't complex it was quite pleasant. In addition to the above components I tasted a bit of tar. When the food was gone the wine tasted peppery. I liked it.

Once again I went to beef, this time a slow cooked beef stew. The wine was a bit chewy. It was powerful and mouth-filling.

The first cheese was a French Saint-Aubin, a soft cow's milk cheese traditionally packed in a wooden box. This cheese has a creamy brie-like texture and a stronger taste. Unlike many other wines, this Cotes du Rhone retained its fruit when paired with the Saint-Aubin.

I next tried the wine with an Italian Bel Paese, a mild buttery cheese suggested to accompany fruity wines or to be eaten alone as a snack or a dessert. This combination was even better; the wine became rounder. Only a few precious sips remained in the bottle. Instead of slicing off a bit more cheese, I tried it with a slice of mint chocolate cake. Unfortunately the combination was no success, the cake denatured the wine a bit. But, as you may know, I do not blame a wine for my unusual unorthodox food pairing attempts that come up short.

Final verdict. I found this wine to be a real winner, especially in light of its moderate price. I'll be buying it again, but not before tasting several other wines from both the north and the south of the Rhone Valley.

Where Discount Blinds Are Found

Are you looking for window blinds? Of course, window blinds are not expensive compared to designed curtains you can find in the market. Many people prefer using window blinds other than window curtains. Aside from the fact that blinds are cheaper compared to window curtains, it also gives sun protection that a conventional curtain fails to offer.

But no matter how cheap these windows are but if your looking for heaps like for example you have a newly built office and you need bunches of window blinds of course, you need to find discount blinds to slash your expenses.

Do you look for any chance to get discounts upon buying those? Most of the people dont think about it but, with the type of living present in the world today, buyers like you must always find a chance to get discounts in everything you spend your money with.

Before you can browse the online shop in the World Wide Web, make sure to check out the nearest store in your area. You can choose the best design and excellent quality in front of you. Of course, a high quality and best brands need not be expensive. Chose the one which can give you the same use but with discounts. Usually, discounts are given during Christmas and during rainy day seasons. This is because you do not need window blinds by this time. So go out and browse the nearest store in your area.

If you are looking for heaps of discount blinds, there is no other shop where you can always find huge amount of discounts other than wholesale shops. Try visiting one of the wholesale shops in your area which sells discount blinds. Of course, if you need many, you will need to have the highest discount you can have. The more you purchase the greater amount of discount you can get. So, the idea of buying solo is not practical this time.

Things You Should Know Before You Download Free Registry Cleaner

You would be tempted to see the offers for download free registry cleaner. Attractive it is. However, before you download free registry cleaner, understand what a registry cleaner is and how you should use one.

The registry is the heart of your computer. This is where your system stores all the information about your computer what your software and hardware settings are, and everything about the system configuration. The Windows uses this information to operate. With time, as and when you install and uninstall new software and other components, the older, unnecessary, and incorrect records keep on accumulating in the registry thereby slowing down the system speed. A Window registry cleaner removes all these extra records, trimming down your registry, and speeding up the complete system.

In addition to old records that are not required, the registry is also a home to a plethora of viruses, Spyware, keyloggers, Trojan, and the like that manipulate the whole system, leading to system errors and much more.

Using a Window Registry Cleaner

The most important and critical element to any operating system from Microsoft is its registry, and you require a certain level of knowledge to use a registry cleaner. This is what you should know:

The frequency with which you should use your registry cleaner depends on the frequency of your changes in the system. You would not face much of a problem with your newly installed computer. If you frequently install and uninstall your software, you need to clean your registry frequently. It depends on how often you install and uninstall photo and graphics software, games, drivers, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software, among other installations.

Do you install components while browsing on the net? Do you often change the system configuration? Do you often change your hardware, printer, your monitor, and the like? Depending on these changes, you need to use your registry cleaner daily, weekly, monthly, or less frequently.

One registry cleaner does not necessarily clean the same way as the next one. A cleaner that finds more problems is not necessarily the better one. Certain cleaners, if they are not sure about the registry record, try to find out if it is important, instead of just deleting it. This results in a better computer performance.

Certain cleaners may search deep and show more problem records. There is every chance that the good records may get thrown out with the bad ones. This is the reason why you need to install a full version of the registry cleaner from a reputed vendor.

A registry cleaner does a great job of removing incorrect and useless data from the registry, and enhances the performance of your computer.

Now that you have all the required information about the role and advantages of Window registry cleaner, you can go ahead and download free registry cleaner for your computer. PC Mantra offers free download of registry cleaner for a trial version and offers a full version with added features and functionality.

Vehicle tracking systems, worth the while?

Tracking systems are used for many reasons. A courier can determine where, and how fast, one of their vehicles is going at any time. Thieves can be followed right to their doorsteps. They can even remember mileage records and such, and remind you when go in for a service.

Most Vehicle tracking systems use GPS, or Global positioning system, to record their exact position, speed and direction at regular intermissions. A network of satellites in medium earth orbit gathers such data. This system is used for other applications, such as navigation, map making and land surveying. It was originally created by the US department of defence, who developed it to attain a precise time reference for earthquake study, and for synchronizing telecommunication systems.

Some advantages of fitting ones vehicle with a satellite tracking system would display as follows. One can get a 30 percent discount on vehicle insurance when fitted. Companies can catch out employees who are using company time to satisfy their personal needs during valuable company paid hours, or those dragging their feet for unwarranted extra overtime pay. Company managers of service and delivery organizations can respond to an order or call-out promptly by sending the nearest available vehicle to the area of the call, they can also gratify customers by providing a very accurate estimated time of arrival on deliveries and service. All employee or driver records like his or her exact routes can be charted and kept for the appropriate time no employee can lie about their whereabouts. For the benefit of a company dispatcher, asset data can be freely monitored and managed over the very simple and user friendly system of a computer application.

Upon feedback from those who have bought vehicle tracking system installations, reports tell a 6 to 12 month return on investment, from the increased efficiency of production and reduced costs. Of course, one should never leave out of their memory the obvious drastic recoup of costs one would experience in the successful recovery of ones stolen asset or vehicle via the highly sophisticated system or network of satellites that circulate the outer atmosphere of the planet, coupled with the unit installed on the vehicle.

Navigation is made into childs play when one utilizes a satellite navigation device to aid them in finding accurate guidance to the sometimes near-impossible task of getting from their original position to the desired destination they require. A Nuvi, for example, which is a small (as small as a box of twenty cigarettes) gadget with an easy to use touch screen graphical user interface, will display a map of the immediate area, provided it has the data stored in its memory, and obligingly guide its owner via voice suggestions concisely and directly to their targeted destination. It can store up to any number of maps and geographically useful items of information, within the capacity of its probably large digital memory, making it indispensable to any person who happens to need to negotiate difficult traffic situations or perhaps cut a living in the regular transportation of goods or what have you to destinations of irregular situation.

These to name a few, are some of the great benefits of investing in the brilliant service of a GPS tracking system.

Types Of Notebook Computers

Notebook, notebook computer, laptop, and laptop computer are different terms for a small computer, which is mobile, and weighing about 1 to 6 kg or 2.2 to 18 pounds, depending upon the model. In 1979-1980, Bill Moggridge of GRiD Systems Corp. designed one of the first laptops and named it as the GRiD Compass 1101. It featured the clamshell design where the flat display folded shut on the keyboard. In May 1983, Gavilan Computer Corp. introduced and first marketed as a laptop, known as Gavilan SC. About this same time, Sharp Corp.Ltd., announced their laptop Sharp PC-5000.

In 1989, Compaq introduced Compaq LTE, which was a laptop of a smaller size, about the size of an A4 paper notebook, and it popularly came to be known as a notebook computer or notebook. Thereafter the terms laptop and notebook began to be used interchangeably. Nevertheless, the terms, notebook and laptop are incorrect terms, as due to the heat, many laptops cannot be placed on top of the lap, and most notebooks are not the size of an A4 paper notebook. However, what manufacturers usually call as a notebook, end-users prefer to call it as a laptop; hence both the terms are used.

According to the functions and the models of notebooks, they are generally classified as: Ultraportables (screen is diagonally less than 12 inches, weight is 1.7 kg or less); thin-and lights (screen is diagonally from 12 to 14 inches, weight is from 1.8 to 2.8 kg); medium-sized laptops (screen is diagonally from 14 to 15.4 inches, weight is from 3 to 3.5 kg); and desktop replacement computers (screen is diagonally from 17 to 20 inches, weight is 4 to 6 kg).

The concept of laptop was to make a device that could use the same software of a desktop computer, but much smaller in size to enable mobility and support mobile computing (ability to use the computer while in transit). Thus, further innovations have introduced transportables (which can be moved from one place to another without supporting mobile computing); tablets (which feature touchscreens and support mobile computing); ultra mobile PCs (which are very small and compact tablet PCs); internet tablets (which support internet and mobile computing); personal digital assistants (PDAs), which are pocket-sized and support mobile computing; handheld computers, which represent expensive tablets or PDAs; and smartphone, which is a PDA or a handheld computer with cellphone integration. Over the development phases, these classifications got blurry at times, and many machines fused functionalities of other categories.

Notebooks can be used for various purposes. Commercial purposes like attending phone calls, receiving and sending emails and faxes, typing out letters and printing them, making presentations with pie and bar charts, and taking data from one place to another can be achieved by any standard notebook. However, high fliers prefer thin-and-light notebooks and for regular office work, ultraportable notebooks are preferred. Both are wireless notebooks so they can be remotely accessed. Scientific purposes are best suited with a notebook that features fast computing speed, good 2D and 3D graphics display, and a large memory, like desktop replacement notebook, and a thin-and-light notebook. Artistic purposes require animation, 2D and 3D drawings, interior & exterior designing, arranging music compositions, post-production audio-video work, etc., which can be fulfilled by desktop replacements, gaming notebooks, and mainstream notebooks.

Educational institutions normally do not prefer notebooks due to its high chance of being stolen. Additionally, they prefer that their assets do not move around within the premises in the hands of students who may be careless. However, to keep up with the times, and to be considered as techno-savvy, they do invest in notebooks. The types of notebooks best suited for educational purposes are mainstream notebooks, and desktop replacements. Students need a notebook to do projects, prepare study notes, and to play some games in their spare time. They need to take the notebook wherever they go, hence, size and weight are major considerations. The type of notebook that fulfills student needs is a thin-and-light notebook with locking facility so that they can lock it with their backpack. Most students report late submission of projects due to their notebooks being stolen.

So no matter what the purpose one might have for using a notebook, it seems that mobility will always seem to be the main reason for such a product purchase. Nowadays with so many models being offered with affordable prices, it seems that notebooks will always be a product in demand. After all it is one of the best selling computer hardware for quite some time. And that says it all.

Whats Better Residual Income Or Passive Income?

Most of us have been taught to go to school and get an education. Ideally you graduate from high school and further your education through college or a trade school. Some go on to achieve their Masters or PHD allowing them to command more money for their time. Ultimately, one must choose what they intend to do for a career, earn a living and be productive in society. Not that you or anyone else needs a diploma in order to be successful but some would consider it to be a marker of discipline, as to whether one may finish the task or do the job required.

Residual income is known as money that is received on a regular basis from efforts already sown. Could be thought of as money that is left over from an initial purchase or ongoing installment. Its nickname or also known as (AKA) mailbox money and can be obtained by anyone, graduate or non graduate.

Usually to keep receiving residual income, one must still be active within the company or organization. Should they leave or break policy, you can expect to stop receiving any further residual money. Replacing the mailbox money with a final termination letter and ceasing any more paychecks as the residual return comes to an end.

Passive income is similar to residual income but with one major difference. With passive income you can now be an inactive party. Qualifying you to retire from your venture an yet still keep on receiving your expected paycheck. Not to be confused with a pension but giving you the freedom to maintain your preexisting standard of living, while NOT having to work for it (the paycheck) any longer.

You hear a great deal of individuals giving testimony to having a residual income, which is what most people strive to obtain and rightly so. This is to be expected when working within a home based business environment or any other self-earned income opportunity. However, if you can build your residual earnings into an ongoing passive income, you will be better off once you choose to STOP acting (or working) to get the paycheck.

Whether it be residual income or passive income, once you get a taste of either one you will most likely want to continue in this manor and grow it to unlimited heights. Allowing you to experience a lifestyle unlike others they may need to report to workplace at a certain time each day, week after week and year after year.

If you are currently representing a company or thinking of joining a company that offers residual income as a form of payment. You should check into their company policies and learn how your earned paycheck may be treated, should you choose to move on to another business opportunity. Losing a residual income after spending your time and energy creating it, could be devastating if you are not aware of its tenure ahead of time.

Weight Loss: Easing Into Exercise

Okay, let's just accept the fact that if you want to lose weight, be healthy, or both, you need to get some sort of exercise program going. This has been proven over and over again. Yes, you CAN lose some weight without exercise, but your health will not improve, and you may find you have created some new problems if all you do is alter your diet in order to lose weight. Also, trying to lose weight without changing the way you have lived your life will prove the old adage to be true:

"Keep doing what you've been doing and you will keep getting what you have been getting."

So, to set about changing what "you have been getting" out of life, at least in terms of health, fitness, and weight loss, you will need to get into some sort of exercise program.

THE PROBLEMS

There are a few problems that people encounter when they start exercising...particularly if they have not been exercising for a while or even worse, are beginning an exercise program for the first time.

1. They have trouble finding the time to exercise.

2. They have difficulty making exercise a habit

3. They are dissatisfied with the results of their exercise program.

4. They injure themselves.

SOME SOLUTIONS

1. Many people find that until exercise becomes an integral part of their life, it is difficult to "find the time" to exercise. There are two points here.

Engage In Opportunistic Exercise

This is the sort of exercise that can be factored into each day's activities. While parking a few feet farther from the store can be a great way to introduce some physical activity into your daily life, one such event once in a while will not make a great difference. On the other hand, it IS a start, and one of the hardest hurdles to overcome is actually STARTING some sort of exercise program. Putting several of these events into your week, parking farther away, taking the stairs, carrying the groceries in from the car, standing up during phone calls, or walking in place while watching TV, for example can get you started on the road to feeling better, looking better, and better health.

Make A Commitment To Exercise

There is an old saying that work will expand to take up the resources committed to it. In other words, if a business is doing perfectly well with one phone and a combination fax/copier and then gets several multi-line phones and a high-speed copier, the employees will soon find they "cannot get along" without these additions. Our lives are similar. In our example, if the boss finds a need to cut costs, the employees will soon find that they CAN function without the high-speed copier, just like they did before.

In our lives, if we make a commitment to exercise, we will be able to "make" the time available, probably by changing something in our lives, but the bottom line will be how important the exercise is to us.

2. For most of us, one of the hardest aspects of this whole exercise thing is making it a habit. If it is not a habit, we will probably start "forgetting" or "having something else to do" and the exercise will eventually fade into the background and be forgotten.

It will be even harder to make something distasteful or time-consuming into a habit. A good tip here is to begin small and concentrate on getting used to the exercise as a regular part of your daily routine before you worry too much about all the other aspects. In other words, start with something simple that you can easily insert into your life, something that will be easy to remember to do regularly. Once the exercise IS a habit, you can expand it and you will soon find that you begin to get uncomfortable if you miss it.

A good point here is that the benefits of regular exercise express themselves in many ways, and if you move from being a non-exerciser to a regular exerciser, you will actually begin to enjoy your exercise experiences.

3. Unrealistic expectations plague many who try to begin an exercise program. The reality is that even the finest exercise program will take time to become fully effective and even then the intensity and breadth should increase and the weight decrease at a measured pace. Added to this is the fact most people do not really know how exercise works and what to expect. If you are starting slow as I advise and gradually increasing your effort, gains in fitness will be slow. Weight loss will also be slow, but, over time, a good exercise program will help your weight loss program, your overall health, your mental outlook, and provide defense against many conditions and illnesses.

NOTE: If you are beginning an exercise program as part of a weight loss program, don't be surprised if you gain weight for a while. This is normal. Ignore your scale and concentrate on how you feel and how your clothes fit. Even though you may be gaining weight, you might actually be shrinking as lean tissue replaces fat.

4. Related to the item above is the potential for injury. Unrealistic expectations occur because of ignorance and lack of experience. The same is true for injuries. People either try to do too much too soon, or simply perform exercises improperly or with the wrong equipment. A good brisk walk can feel good from the first day of your new exercise program, but not if you walk too far, too fast, too soon, or wear the wrong kind of shoes.

Remember, how much you CAN do is not necessarily how much you SHOULD do.

I have a friend who has started exercise programs several times since I have known her. Every time, she tries to start out doing as much as she can. Later she begins to feel sick because she is in poor condition, and then feels washed out and experiences pain over the next few days. That's the end of her exercise program until the bug hits her again a few months later.

Start slow, build up slowly, but keep on doing it and you will reap the rewards of a regular exercise program.

Consolidate Private Student Loans - 4 Benefits You Can't Ignore

Consolidate private student loans into one manageable loan. Instead of trying to juggle multiple private student loans, why not lump them together and make it easier to manage each month? When you consolidate your private student loans, you replace all of your outstanding private loans with one large private student loan. Sounds like a lot of work? Not really. In fact it's easy and here are the benefits that you'll enjoy.

The key benefit when you consolidate private student loans is lower monthly payments. Instead of making multiple monthly payments on different loans, you would have only one monthly payment. That one monthly payment will be less than the total amount of payments of all the other loans combined. Frankly, this is the time when you need your money the most - for rent, furniture, buying a house or car, getting married, starting a family...

By lumping your private student loans into one loan, you make repayment much more convenient. You get to deal with only one lender and that reduces the risk of forgetting about or missing payments. There's much less paperwork to worry about and you don't have to juggle a bunch of different due dates.

Consolidating your private student loans provides you the opportunity to get a lower interest rate and that saves you money. Lower interest charges help to offset the cost of lowering your monthly payment. So in the end, you can have lower monthly payments without extending your loan as far as you would have.

One of the added benefits of consolidating your private student loans is you can improve your credit score. When you receive a consolidation loan, the funds are used to pay off all of the loans being consolidated. So, in effect, you have just successfully paid off multiple loans - on time or early. And that goes a long way to improving your credit score.

So how exactly does that benefit you? Remember, the house or car you want to buy? That's going to take a mortgage or car loan. A better credit score means you pay less interest and that saves you money. In the case of a mortgage, it can mean thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in savings.

If you want to lower your monthly payments, make them more convenient by dealing with only one loan and get a lower interest rate, you should consolidate private student loans. It not only helps keep your money at a time when you need it but it helps you improve your chances of saving more money on future loans.

Tips To Escape From The Google Sandbox

Google's sandbox is a relatively new filter that appeared to be put in place back in March of 2004. This happened after the widely publicized updates of Austin and Florida, and the implementation of what is known as the Austin update. If you are not sure what those are, there is no need to worry as those updates are now for the most part in the past. The sandbox filter seems to affect nearly all new websites placing them on an initial "probation" status. The effect of this is that new websites may get into Google's SERP's (search engine results pages) relatively quickly and may even perform well for a couple of weeks. When the filter is applied to the new website it is referred to as being put in the "sandbox". The new website will still show in the result pages, but it will not rank well regardless of how much original, well optimized content and regardless of how many quality inbound links the site may have. The filter restrains new websites from having immediate success in the search engine result pages. Or in worse condition, if you rank well in all the other major search engines, but do not show up at all in Google's rankings, you have probably been sandboxed.

No webmaster will like the Google Sandbox. But, a smart webmaster will use the sandbox as an opportunity to build a website that Google simply cannot refuse.

If your website is sandboxed, here my tips to escape from there:

1. Change your website layout
2. Add your website content
3. Submit your articles (with your website name attached) to increase link popularity

Google still ranks websites in much the same way that they had in the past. Websites are judged on the quality of their inbound links and the quality of their content. Google will continue to change how they evaluate inbound links and content, but the basic elements of their rankings will remain the same.

Some opinions say that it takes 6-12 months to escape from Google Sandbox, while another opinions say it takes only a few weeks to escape from Googles sandbox. But, if you do nothing, your website may not be released from the Google Sandbox.

Finally, I want to say that the Google Sandbox is only intended to reduce search engine spam. It is not intended to hold people back from succeeding. Google is looking for websites that offer quality contents for us as Googles customers. Google still relies on the natural voting system that was first used to establish pagerank. So, keep positive thinking !

All the best,

Electric Guitar Set Up: How to Maximize Your Guitar's Performance

Like any precision instrument guitars will perform their best when they are properly set up. By setting up your guitar properly you can maximize your guitars potential and also customize how it will feel, play, and sound to your liking. There are some adjustments that are best left to a professional but you can do a lot yourself with just a few simple tools. Here are 3 easy steps you can take to adjust your guitars action, intonation, and pickup output.

The action of a guitar refers to how easy it is to fret (push down on) the strings. A guitar set up with good action will play effortlessly. The easiest way to affect the action of a guitar is by adjusting the string height at the bridge. Most electric guitars will have an adjustable bridge to allow this. Most guitar bridges will have either a hand-turned bridge height adjustment knob (like on Les Paul type guitars) or a hex-wrench driven mechanism (like most Strat-type guitars). Simply turn the screws to lower the string height. The goal is to go as low as you can before the strings start to buzz meaning they are resting on a the fret wire. There are some instances where you may want a higher string height, for example if you play slide guitar, but in general the lower the better. Other adjustments that affect string height and action such as height at the nut, neck angle, and truss rod adjustments may be better left for the professional.

Intonation of a guitar refers to the relationship of the frets to the precise string length. A guitar that is intonated correctly will sound in-tune at all neck positions. Poorly intonated guitars will sound ok at one neck position, but will sound out-of-tune at other neck positions. The length of a guitar string from nut to bridge needs to be exactly bisected at the 12th fret. In other words the 12th fret must divide the string exactly in half. Here the adjustable bridge comes into play again. Most bridges will have individual saddles for each string that can be moved to adjust intonation. Moving the string saddle, in effect, changes the length of the string. You will need a good electronic tuner to adjust your intonation. The goal here is to precisely match the tone of the fretted 12th string to the tone of the 12th string natural harmonic. A natural harmonic tone is achieved by only lightly putting your finger over the fret wire (the 12th in this instance) and picking the string normally. Natural harmonics will ring like a chime. They are easier to hear when the guitar is plugged into an amp and even easier when using the overdrive channel of your amp. Use your tuner to match the tone of the 12th string harmonic to the fretted 12th string tone by incrementally moving the string saddle one way or the other. Do this for each individual string, and your guitar will be intonated.

Pickup output can greatly be affected by the proximity of the pickup to the string. The easiest way to adjust this is by adjusting the pickup height. The closer the pickup is to the string the higher the output. Most pickups will have a height adjustment screw on either side of the pickup housing. Simply turn it to raise and lower the pickup. Fret the strings at the highest possible fret and raise the pickup so that its about 1/8 from the string. This should produce a good high output sound. From here you can customize your sound by either raising or lowering the high E or low E side of the pickup to enhance or subdue the treble or bass response. Make sure that you match the output between all of your pickups so that you wont get a big volume change when you change pickups.

With these tips your should be able to improve and customize your guitar and maximize the its performance. Remember that a properly set up guitar has a great impact on how it will play. It can be the difference between a guitar that plays good or one that plays great. Long Island Schools Rethink Gym Credit

The Problem

Teachers, students, and parents at Long Island schools have been struggling with how to give credit for physical education classes. On the one hand, many argue that counting gym like an academic class can badly affect the GPA of students who are strong academically but do not do well in gym. On the other hand, others argue that when students know that the gym class does not affect their GPA they do not put the effort and attention into the class in order to improve their physical health.

Long Island Schools have decided to strike a middle ground and allow students to choose whether they want it to count or not. The decision only applies to current sixth through ninth graders so it will not affect current graduating high school students. 24 of the 60 schools in the Suffolk County district have decided to handle gym in this way, hoping to please groups on both sides while addressing the needs of students.

The Process

Many of the changes were suggested by parents who signed petitions to allow physical education to be counted on GPAs instead of as a pass / fail mark as it had been in the past. The superintendent and the school boards of Long Island schools met to consider the proposals from parents to figure out how to make the physical education curriculum the most effective for students as well as the most standardized in grading.

In addition to parental concern, there was also intense scrutiny of the new New York State Standards for Physical Education. The argument here is that the new standards have clear aims and objectives that can be measured and graded like an academic class. Superintendents of Long Island schools determined that in implementing these new standards in the physical education curriculum, the schools would be able to give grades for accomplishing certain tasks rather than the all encompassing pass / fail marks.

What People Think

Reactions to the change have been mixed. Some parents are looking forward to counting the physical education class on the GPA while others are worried about hurting the academic side of their childs report card. One board member stated: "I think that phasing it in provides us the opportunity to see how it goes. Allowing the option would not hurt a student's GPA." The decision also pleased Jonathan Estrada, who will be a senior this fall at Northport High School. Earlier in the school year, he had become concerned when he learned that the new policy would be mandatory. "I was immediately sort of troubled about it," he said. "You shouldn't be hurt from a grade that doesn't reflect the actual ability."

In academic circles, many educators are applauding the change, citing the need for a stronger and more comprehensive program in physical education to tackle the current health problems of Americas youth. University studies and national surveys all point to the increased grading and evaluating of physical education as key to keeping the class relevant and useful for students. Counting the class as a grade will help students take the class more seriously, and hopefully translate into healthier students in and out of Long Island schools.

Tips for Starting Your Own Jewelry Business

Staring your own business can be an intimidating challenge. However, this task can be made achievable by setting up realistic goals, and following a few easy steps. If you have a passion of fashion and are an outgoing person, you can establish your own silver jewelry business. Being in the jewelry business myself, I can tell you what you will need in order to start one on your own.

For the last seven years, I have been a wholesale silver jewelry supplier. I have helped close to a thousand people start small businesses of their own by providing them with excellent quality silver jewelry at honest wholesale prices along with free advice and consultancy. My first piece of advice to people who are new into the world of business is to set attainable goals and objectives, and make a business plan. As hard as it may seem, in reality there are few barriers to entry to starting your own business with low cost service providers, marketing, communication and availability of wholesale jewelry suppliers. Given below is a list of things you can do in order to start or enhance a successful jewelry business.

i. Make a plan: It is very important to have a good plan. A formal business plan is not necessary unless you want to get a loan or an investor. Instead, the plan you make should be meticulous, especially on the financial side.
ii. Think about whether the jewelry you want to sell is right for your intended market. Diamond jewelry is probably not the right product for a flea market!
iii. You can host a home-based jewelry party yourself or have a friend host it and give her some free stuff as compensation. Ask your friend to invite her friends and relatives for the party. These people come to buy and you have no competition.
iv. Buy off EBay - many people buy things at good prices and then just re-sell them.
v. Search the web for other silver jewelry wholesalers.
vi. Put jewelry out at your own or your friends garage sales. It really works!
vii. Visit these sites frequently:

www.paypal.com : Online payments and merchant account

www.Godaddy.com : Domain registration and turn-key hosting solutions

www.fetpak.com : Low-cost jewelry supplies and displays (ring boxes, findings, etc.)

www.ShippingSupply.com : Low-cost shipping supplies

www.jewelrysupply.com : Jewelry supplies and displays

Wholesalegemshop.com : Supplier of wholesale silver jewelry

http://www.festivalnet.com : Wholesale Silver Jewelry Supplier List of craft shows throughout the country Great source of low cost products

Ebay.com - Wholesale Jewelry : EBay Pro-store - turn key ecommerce solution

http://www.adwords.google.com : Google Adwords Program

The above-mentioned points are helpful hints that will assist you in either starting a jewelry business or making your already existing jewelry business successful. I could have used this information when I started out. I enjoy helping people get started in their own businesses. Even though my business has grown substantially since I started out, I still feel truly grateful to every one of my customers who enable me to succeed and allow me to pursue the lifestyle I chose.
